Honoring A Peace Wish...
In recognition of both the Whitehead and von Trapp family's aspirations for peace, despite their military involvement, the foundation biennially chooses a deserving recipient for our Peace Recognition Award. We select a deserving organization making a difference towards peace to highlight and acknowledge.

We look for organizations making positive impacts to promote human dignity, well-being, and our shared human connection.

“It is not enough to win a war; it is more important to organize the peace.” –Aristotle

Peace Recognition Award

von Trapp Family and CARE History
From 1946 - 1950, the
Trapp Family Austrian Relief Inc. sent thousands of tons of aid to post-World War II Austria with the assistance of the newly formed Cooperative for American Remittance to Europe (CARE). CARE at the time consisted of 22 American charities working to help with post-World War II relief efforts for millions in need of food and supplies. Today CARE International has become the Cooperative for Assistance & Relief Everywhere, leading one of the largest efforts against poverty and providing relief and assistance on the basis of need, regardless of race, creed, or nationality.
